Gizmodo’s line — do you believe he’s the protagonist and everyone else is an NPC? — is rhetorical but pointed. The deeper version of the question is: do we want the answer to that to be determined by share-class structures and IPO documents, or by something with more democratic legitimacy? Right now, increasingly, it’s the former.
